The Man in the helmet

This photograph was taken by Miquel (my father) on a race day in the town of Molins de Rei in 1974.

Between 1965 and 1985, long before karting circuits existed, Kart races were held in the streets of towns and cities. Montmeló (Barcelona, Catalonia) was one of these towns. From this town came the man in the helmet, my uncle, whose name was Ferran. My uncle was the Spanish Karting Champion in the 250cc category in 1972, 1973 and 1974. My uncle won these championships with a kart designed by the same engineer as Ricardo Tormo, a professional motorcycle driver of Derbi. A kart powered by a 4-speed Bultaco Pursang MK9 5v engine.

The photo of a racing driver putting on his helmet -an object of safety and personality- is the common act of all drivers and co-drivers in the world of motor racing, regardless of the discipline. That is why the uncle is the logo. Because it's the uncle, because it's racing, because it happens at all the famous racing meeting places.
